Teaching & Learning
The role of the Governing Body is to work with the headteacher and the staff in their aim to provide a high standard of education for all pupils in a Christian environment. The Governing Body helps the Senior Leadership Team set ambitious targets for school improvement and strive for excellence across the spectrum of school life. The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the headteacher and staff.
The Governing Body’s legal duties include:-
- setting strategic objectives and direction
- approving the school budget
- reviewing progress against the school's budget and development plan
- ratifying school policies
- appointing, challenging and supporting the headteacher
The Full Governing Body meets every six weeks. In addition, each governor serves on a number of working committees. These committees provide the Full Governing Body with information and guidance to inform strategic decisions. The minutes of Governing Body meetings are available on the school website and a hard copy is kept in the school office.
The thirteen governors bring a wide range of expertise and experience to the board. Governors are appointed as parent, church (foundation), local authority or staff governors. Every parent at our school is automatically a member of the Friends of Wateringbury Primary School (FOWPS), registered charity no. 1038836. FOWPS is run by a dynamic committee of parents and is supported by Class Reps from each class.
FOWPS is about Fundraising, having Fun and making Friends. We raise money to buy new equipment and resources for the school by organising fetes, discos, film nights, golf days, recycling collections, non-uniform days and quizzes and by applying for grants and securing sponsorship.
FOWPS has recently funded an outdoor learning gazebo, playground markings, outdoor table tennis table, books, data projectors, football goals, sports kits, wet weather games, art aprons, sewing machines, voice recorders and digital cameras.
