Nurture and Community
A huge part of who we are is our nurturing and family-focused ethos. We are a church school in our village and see it as our responsibility to prepare our pupils to be outstanding citizens in that community as well as the global community.
We are a nurture school and follow the six principles of nurture:
- Children’s learning is understood developmentally
- The classroom offers a safe base
- The importance of nurture for the development of wellbeing
- Language is a vital means of communication
- All behaviour is communication
- The importance of transitions in children’s lives.
Our children are taught how to look after themselves in terms of physical and mental health. Our PSHE curriculum teaches children how to recognise and manage their emotions and difficult situations. All classes have had lessons on Zones of Regulation which helps children to identify and control their emotions. All of our children brush their teeth after lunch and we have daily physical exercise built into our timetable.
We are lucky to have lots of spaces around our school that promote wellbeing and encourage our children to focus on being ready to learn. Every classroom has a calm/nurture area, we have nurture camp and clover meadow in school for children and adults who need a quiet space. Our library and our outdoor spaces also allow children to have a break.
